Lavoro, the first agricultural input distributor in Latin America to have its shares listed on the Nasdaq, the American stock exchange, won 5th place in the 100 Best Fleets. Promoted by the NAFA Fleet Management Association and Instituto Parar. The award evaluates projects from the companies fleet department from different segments that have stood out on the national scene. Last year, the company reached 15th place.

“Over the past few years, we have adopted various measures and invested in new programs to ensure the well-being and traffic safety of our employees. We have climbed ten places in the ranking, the result of an arduous work and raising awareness among our drivers. A great achievement to celebrate,” celebrates Thiago Pereira de Souza, Fleet Specialist at Lavoro.

Souza points out that one of the successful measures implemented in the fleet area is the ongoing training of employees. In September 2022, the company held an awareness campaign, “Direção Segura” (Safe Driving), with the aim of drawing attention to and educating about certain behaviors in traffic.

On the occasion, the company’s 10 best drivers were recognized. “As well as all the educational issues, we also invest in recognizing the best drivers. This is essential for employees to understand that they are on the right track. We have also adopted extensive monitoring of our drivers, which has generated excellent results, contributing to our progress,” says Roberto Daniel Silva Rosa, Supply Chain Director at Lavoro.

Between July 2022 and June 2023, Lavoro categorized its drivers and identified a drastic reduction in risks. “We run a specific training course called “Direção Segura Lavoro” (Lavoro Safe Driving) for our drivers, with tips, instructions and guidelines on what to do and what not to do on the road, which is also available at our Corporate University,” explains Lucas Mori Pipa, Indirect Purchasing and Fleet Manager at Lavoro.

Training is mandatory for all company drivers. When the driver’s indicator is low (with notes of dangerous driving/high speed or recurrence of infractions, for example), the first to act is the employee’s direct leader, who has access to this history and follows up with the driver. After three months in the risk category, the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) department takes contingency measures to reduce future accidents. These measures have brought remarkable results.

“We have achieved this incredible milestone, thanks to the efforts of the whole team, but we still have a long way to go and new measures to put in place,” Souza concludes.
