Lavoro signs partnership with Alper Seguros

Lavoro, the first agricultural input distributor in Latin America to be listed on the Nasdaq, the American stock exchange, has just announced a partnership with Alper Seguros, one of the largest insurance brokers in Brazil, to market its agricultural insurance products. With deep experience in the sector, the Alper Agro division has insured more than 14,000 pieces of machinery and more than two million hectares and has more than R$40 billion in assets under management.

The arrival of Alper will enable Lavoro to expand its portfolio of services, delivering solutions in all types of insurance for agribusiness, increasing the presence of the agricultural inputs distributor in this sector in all the regions in which it operates.

“With lower margins due to an uncertain scenario based on volatile commodity prices and extreme weather events, Brazilian farmers are increasingly looking for tools to protect their productivity, and insurance is one of them. To meet this need, Lavoro has been investing in strengthening its agricultural insurance solutions arm, signing partnerships with consolidated companies in the sector, such as Alper,” says Ruy Cunha, CEO of Lavoro.

Alper Seguros will distribute the products of Lavoro’s partner insurance companies exclusively in the states of Mato Grosso, Rondônia, Pará, Tocantins, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. Marketing is now available at all of the company’s points of sale in these regions, either in physical stores or through field service carried out by the sales team.

“The partnership with Alper should give even more traction to the group’s agricultural insurance project, bringing tailor-made, multi-crop solutions to all of Lavoro’s areas of operation in Brazil,” says Guilherme Rosa, the executive responsible for Lavoro’s services area.

“Alper has proven expertise in the agribusiness segment, with operations in various crops, as well as diversity in the types of insurance. A partner like Lavoro only reinforces that we are on the right track,” says André Lins, Alper’s VP of Agribusiness.

“Being able to work with producers whose crops are so important to our economy makes us even more eager to work on diversifying and customizing insurance for the sector. We will provide a differentiated service, with in-depth knowledge of the segment, a cutting-edge presence and our own technology,” adds Afonso Arinos, Alper’s Agribusiness director.

Data from the Brazilian insurance sector

In a scenario where the government may invest more in subsidizing rural credit, the National Insurance Confederation (CNseg) estimates that rural insurance will grow by 6% in 2025, 5.5 p.p. more than estimated for 2024.

Low government subsidies have had a profound impact on rural producers, the insurance market and the agricultural economy in general. Without this support, many farmers stop taking out insurance, exposing themselves to increasingly severe economic and climatic risks.
